Rules of Remixing?

I don’t know if I missed them, but I can’t exactly find any rules or guidelines for remixes. Just to clarify, what are we allowed to do with a remix? Do we only work with the elements already there, or can we add our own elements to it? Can we wipe the slate clean and come up with our own response to a volley instead of altering the other designer’s response? Should we do our remixes in 15 minutes like the competitors (honor system on this one, I guess)? Should we do remixes during the matches, or can we go back and remix match 1 if we wanted? I think that covers what I want to know. |

I’m asking the same questions too. So far, I made a remix using the layers provided and just added some type, although I wanted to add my own elements. I think I did mine a little over 15 mins as well. |

The only important rule for remixes is that you should not use copyrighted work (unless you own the copyright, or have paid for the stock art or whatnot). You can use your own elements, Creative Commons-licensed stuff, public domain, etc. in addition to the elements from the match. You can start with a competitor’s design and modify, or create your own response to a volley, or just use elements from the entire game to come up with something new—it’s entirely up to you. No need to stick to the 15 minute rule, unless you want to as a point of pride. Of course you can remix older matches. They won’t qualify for the contests, obviously, but don’t let that stop you. |
