Topic: Peoples' Choice - Two Matches for 1/24 / Conversation About The Matches

I’ve gone through both matches several times, now. I’ve read every word. I didn’t think it possible to beat Glass, but match one is Inman’s on the strength of volley 9. Match two belongs to Rosecrans. Too close to call between the competitors, but it was the commentary that made the match. Phenomenal finale!

Duerden wins? Sorry, I think Duerden boldly responds to… Duerden, volley 5. Without responding to the other contestant, isn’t this just mastur… Nevermind. Fits the theme.

Last week there were a lot of complaints about the time between volley’s. It’s what finally swayed my vote for Kevin. This week I think we’re seeing what happens when you take away time for contemplation and execution. If, in the end, the real winners were the viewers last week, this week is starting to look like a draw.

This is already a remarkably different competition from last week. I’ve seen “random” mentioned a few times regarding the serve, and it is almost like Duerden dumped the bag of Scrabble tiles out for the serve, leaving Thomas to begin spelling.

Topic: Shaun Inman vs. Kevin Cornell 9/28 / Conversation About Today's Match

For me, this is a little like the armchair quarterback calling the winner of the derby. I’m a spectator, not a designer (web or otherwise). But I studied up a bit and really enjoyed the competition.

I fell into rooting for the underdog about halfway through (Shaun at that point, according to comments) but was ultimately swayed by three things: pr’s post laying out the work side by side, Kevin’s first return (volley 3), and what seemed to be much longer returns from Shaun. (Seemed longer. Time stamps would help solidify that impression.) I know this can’t be all about rules, but Kevin works quickly and beautifully, which is what layer tennis is about. It’s not layer golf, curling, chess, or any other more contemplative sport.

Either way, it’s a new favorite pastime. Can’t wait for next week’s.
