Topic: Conversation About Today's Match I personaly prefered Shaun since the beggining but Cornell did a great match. At the end it was difficult to decide which one was the best because the last composition of shaun kiked ass |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match But Shaun got the whole family (well, more like two—but still!) guarding his back. I originally voted for Cornell, but at the risk of the dad/mom avenging their precious son, I would go for Shaun ;-) UPDATE: Cornell FTW, as seen on the main page. |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match Kevin Cornell all the way on this one. He not only raised the bar in virtually every panel, but he dropped designs that were clearly out of his normal element and more into Shaun’s. Plus, his volleys were more imaginative—it seemed that Shaun was forced to play defense every step of the way. |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match Like the game of tennis, the server carries a bit of advantage in a given game. I feel Inman did a brilliant job of returning the initial serve, which was a whopper by Mr. Cornell. Overall, I feel the match was pretty tight…and the final return by Inman was a great one, but I think throughout the match, Cornell preformed skillfully enough to hold serve and claim victory. At a disadvantage being the returner, Inman put up a great fight, but Cornell gets the W in my book. |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match I think I gotta go with Shaun because he showed the ability to think on his feet. I think Cornell’s last shot was too basic and a fairly obvious move. Inman’s last was daring and he definitely went for the kill. Very very close, though. |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match “Shaun’s Mom”: I was just shown how to get in and view how things went. Kudos to both of you. I am truly amazed at what you both can do with technology . Still don’t know what it all means but will enjoy learning. I will have to read your blog, for the blow by blow as to what you were thinking. Until later |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match Gee, I think we all win in this game – especially for the inspiration. I love reading the play-by-play and especially Shuan’s thoughts during the match (see post, above). The fact that these guys can create like this on the fly and so quickly (relatively so, even though it sometimes took longer than 15 minutes) is amazing. I found myself routing for Shuan – I think maybe because he’s closer to what I am (a UI dev) and also because, being a first time layer tennis watcher, I thought the idea was to build upon the layers before and, although I loved the image, the whole switching to print thing made me go – huh? Where’s all the stuff Shuan did the last round? But I get it now, it can be about building on the concept, too. Anyway, loved both of their creativity and artwork and love this game! I guess I would probably give the win to Shuan, because I really think he did a better job at playing off of the previous layers. (FYI, in real tennis, if you switch the direction of the ball while in play, you lose the point 70% of the time. Learned that tidbit at a tennis camp.) |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match @doppelf: wolf cubs actually (as you’ll see in the label under the illustration when you guys get access to the source files on Monday). For anyone interested in what was going through my head during the match I did a quick, play-by-play write up on my site. |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match Kevin Cornell. Showed an incredible ability to think quickly, which, for those watching live, was a major plus. And #3 straight-up destroyed Inman. |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match In being asked to declare a winner, we need to know the game. In focusing on the two most noticeable players, we shouldn’t forget the third—Gruber himself, whose own ideas are in play (the trouncing, for example, of Marker Felt) and whose own feelings about the match are felt by the other players. When Gruber implies as early as the fifth round (volley) that Cornell may be going for a “knockout,” we begin to understand that his “play-by-play commentary” is different from that in an ordinary sporting event: His audience is not only we the spectators but also the participants themselves. More than just commenting on the action, he has the ability to influence it. In response, then, to both Cornell and Gruber, Inman can only ask, in round six, “Bleaten Already?” |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match Aargh. I missed the better quarter of the match. I think that Cornell consistently played well throughout, but Inman had the best “oh, snap” kind of comeback. The winner? I have to say Kevin, for having the balls to set Latin words in Copperplate . He also showed us that default filters are for chumps by refraining from using any obvious one—in its place, beautiful artworks. Good show. |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match Cornell’s only hiccup in my opinion was Volley 5, and he totally redeemed himself in Volley 7 and then it was game, set, match for him with Volley 9. Nice work! |

Topic: Conversation About Today's Match Hrm… Inman’s last volley was a solid play, highlighed his strengths and built off the core concept of layer tennis nicely. Technically though, Kevin creamed him in the other rounds. Kevin’s control of typographic was spot-on, his use of color was inspiring, and the concepts were organic and original. I didn’t like Inman’s use of Marker Felt to get the commentator’s attention… just seemed to cheapen the event. (If that was the purpose anyway) |
