Topic: Conversation About The Match Ok, I just looked through all of the posts and would like to recant my earlier statement, obviously this is a crazy thing to do and they are both talented. At closer look, it seems the evolution of the volleys ends abruptly at 5, while scott was sticking to his guns, it seems that rob was continually building in a more abstract way. I think the best is when both players decide early on to play with each other or against each other. |

Topic: Conversation About The Match Rob’s last shot seemed like a good response to the nostalgia, scanlines and “mum” and all. Love the hand-crafted look by the way! |

Topic: Conversation About The Match The judges have conferred, and they’ve given the match to Scott Hansen. Great game, everyone! (Oh, and this post means the in-forum contest is now closed. But the remix contest has just begun! |

Topic: Conversation About The Match I felt that YES Scott seemed to stick to his game plan, but Scott also seemed to keep elements together, and kept building on what layers where there, whereas Rob seemed to attempt to jsut destroy everything. Also it always seemed like Rob was trying to keep up, and never seemed like he ever had control. This could be my own fault becasue I think whoever has the serve has the advantage becasue they have a chance to set the tone of the match, and it seems as though the game should be about building and responding to what is there and keeping elements. I felt Scott did that much better and was able to maintain full control over his images throughout and stuck with a theme. Even if you were to jump into the match late, Scott’s images seemed to make sense, whereas you would probably have to actually go back and read the comentary to really be able to understand Rob’s. |

Topic: Conversation About The Match Scott, Rob, did you read the forums at all while you worked (or waited for the next volley)? there often seems to be reactions to the forums, but I cant’ imagine you’d have any time to read them. It’s nice to think the fans have some input into the match, just like Chicago Fire fans can usually cheer the team to a goal on sheer willpower… ha. (too bad the semifinal game was in New England). |

Topic: Conversation About The Match Aw crap, got caught up in work and missed the last two volleys… but now I gotta go home. It’s quitting time. Quick sum up on my opinion here… Volley 9 : Hansen came back again with his typical style and a new color palette, which is nice, but it’s just a different colored one trick pony. Still looks nice though, and the box being in there is cool. Volley 10: MY EYES. THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING. Nice match, but very one-sided. But it was cool to see everything Hansen did. And Cordiner’s sense of humor is great, but I would have liked to see better designs. Later all. |

Topic: Conversation About The Match Would have called this one a draw until volley 9. Hansen successfully integrates previous layers into the aesthetic he’d been pushing all match. Great work from both, but I think, with that shot, Hansen takes it. |

Topic: Conversation About The Match onion, we’re working on a minimalist match, stay tuned. It’d be nice to see some reduction/subtraction without wiping the slate clean. Last week’s battle (bantjes and vit) featured a few instances of that. |

Topic: Conversation About The Match Scott, absolutely, interpretation of the lack of rules is critical, ha. We all have different expectations, and it’s awesome to see them twisted every week. We don’t know what we want! It seems like my enjoyment of the match is usually inversely proportional to the peanut gallery, which means this was one of my favorites, ha. You guys did great, take any criticism with a grain of salt. |

Topic: Conversation About The Match I’m with Bryan on this one. Scott’s canvases were killer, and there was some nice subtlety in the layering, but it all read as very slight variations on a very limited theme. I thought volley three was his most interesting because it was such a direct response to Rob’s odd (but startlingly pretty, IMO) return. For as much as people have accused Rob of being all over the place and wiping the slate clean too much, I actually think Scott was most guilty of papering over whatever dialogue was starting to develop. But I stick by my original comment—this was one of the most consistently interesting matches so far, and certainly the most evenly matched. I’d call this one a draw. |
