Topic: Scott Hansen vs Rob Cordiner 11/9 / Conversation About The Match

OK, pros and cons of each in my humble opinion:

Hansen
Pro: He stuck with his own unique style from beginning to end, maintinaing the same look from start to finish. All of his volleys were consistent and cool.
Cons: Could have use less of his pre-exisiting imagery. Would have been cool to see him do 15-minute ISO50 style pattern and collages out of the stuff Cordiner was tossing his way.

Cordiner
Pro: Completely original and fearlessly cheeky, anti-design responses to throw Hansen off guard.
Cons: Not much of a design concept from volley to volley, none very aesthetic IMHO. Some of the volleys didn’t seem like designs, just junk thrown on top to make the previous volley’s ugly.

Gravitymachine’s winner: Hansen. His volley’s just look better-period. Each could stand on their own as a nice piece of design. Most of Cordiner’s, on the other hand, if taken out of context are a mess.

I wonder if they are reading these threads while waiting for the return? Hansen’s #9, a beautiful finish, seems to be a response to everything we’ve been saying about evolving. Somehow he made the stupid eye-signs from #8 work with his design, removing the lousy text and using the feet instead. Nice finish, but I fear his concept, which he’s fought desperately to maintain, will be hardly recognizable when Cordiner’s done with it.

Yeah, as I look back on the volleys there is more evolution going on when you look deeper. However, what seems to be happening is that Hansen started out with a concept with strong colors, composition, and imagery and he’s trying to roll with his original idea. Each of Cordiner’s volleys seem to do a small bit of evolving, but pretty mcuh remove any of Hansen’s stylistic elements…clean slate I guess like Kangaroo Dez said. So each of Hansen’s responses are trying to bring the imagery back to his original style, concept.

Cordiner seems to be changing up with each volley, rather than trying to impose a distinct style like Hansen.

Yeah. Volley 7 is nice work from Hansen again, but seeing recycled elements from existing work is a little disappointing as well. Would have liked to see the gorilla get an on-the-spot treatment of the bird or the bear.

Yeah, I like that Hansen is using a consistent pallete and style, whereas Cordiner is pretty much all over the map, no real style or concept. It seems like he’s trying more to to just make it completely different just to be different, rather than different to say “I’ve got a cooler style and better skillz.” No offense, Cordiner, you rock, but I’m not diggin it so far.

Pretty viscious match…seems like they are pretty much covering up each other’s work with something completely original rather than evolving it.

Hansen FTW. That first volley was gorgeous!
