Topic: Season Finale: Peoples' Choice / Who Should Play In the Last Two Matches? @ Jason Santa Maria:
This picture was what inspired me :) I think your idea of having a match be opened with a volley from the past was great. Or, better yet, have them start with their opponent’s piece from his/her last volley. Get ’em started early, if you know what I mean. @ Patrik Fagard: battle of the commentators isn’t a bad idea. I would pick Heller vs. BB, because they have such a contrasting style of writing. |

Topic: Season Finale: Peoples' Choice / Who Should Play In the Last Two Matches? Jason Santa Maria v Shaun Inman; because we all know that, deep down, they shared unending grudge for each other’s fame. Bonus if moderated by John Gruber, who will be confused over which of his two friends should he favor/give unfair benefit of doubt to. In short: the psychological fore/inter/post-play are worth it. And Kevin Cornell v Marian Bantjes or Veerle Pieters (or a combination thereof. Three-way match, anyone?) Here’s why it will be an instant classic:
I originally wanted to nominate Aaron Draplin as well, being from Stumptown and all, but I have yet to find him a good opponent. |

Topic: Aaron Draplin vs David Nakamoto 11/16 / Conversation About The Match Amazingness! No other designer had finished the match with this kind of love/hate lob. Nakamoto had stronger individual volleys, but I think that Draplin played a better match overall. He put just enough revenge in the sauce, without resorting to restart the landscape from scratch or over-recycling it. Draplin. Draplin. Draplin! |

Topic: Aaron Draplin vs David Nakamoto 11/16 / Conversation About The Match @ DigiDave: No kidding. Probably. You can see the texture of the pills pressing against the scanner’s white upperside. Scary if he has to clean up that many stuff from his scanner after the match. |

Topic: Aaron Draplin vs David Nakamoto 11/16 / Conversation About The Match Yeah. Pictures must’ve been taken either this morning or yesterday afternoon. The weather outside at the moment is pure Portland, which is to say that it’s “too crappy and/or cold to go out and photograph stuff.” But still! Portland represent! |

Topic: Marian Bantjes vs Armin Vit 11/02 / Conversation About The Match I got mixed feeling about volley nine. It’s as if Marian tried to follow Armin by way of wittiness and herself by visual continuity—all at the same time. The result is incredible, but not as strong as volley seven. If Armin can throw a super clever last return, then he may win, but otherwise, Marian still played a better (crowd pleasing = better/not?) match. Dun dun daaah… |

Topic: Marian Bantjes vs Armin Vit 11/02 / Conversation About The Match This volley just upped Marian’s chance of winning by a hundred-fold. She’ll deliver a beautiful return. Oh yes, she will. EDIT: Duh, I completely overlooked the poking fun bit. Never mind, then. Make that five-fold. Marian will return with something pleasing, I’m sure, but this one has a huge conceptual edge. |

Topic: Marian Bantjes vs Armin Vit 11/02 / Conversation About The Match Yes. Volley 7 trumps. But Armin gets two more returns. Will he be able to get everybody in this forum to synchronously fire “oh, snap”? Or will Marian succesfully maintain her lead, which she had done in volley 3? WE WILL SEE. |

Topic: Chris Glass vs Naz Hamid 10/19 / Conversation About The Match Awww… What a cute finish that ties everything together. BUT if it’s Naz who we’re talking about, there might just be some devilishy clever subliminal message/poke at Chris Glass hidden within that white reflection on the red lightsaber. |

Topic: Chris Glass vs Naz Hamid 10/19 / Conversation About The Match Conclusion so far: Chris Glass FTW, though I bet early on for Naz Hamid. I thought that Naz’s first image made for a very strong opening, but it didn’t go anywhere. On the other hand, all of Glass’ return changed the course of the match. This put Naz at a great disadvantage since he can only resort to reactive returns to balance Glass’ game. That is, unless he can piece the Golden Toilet together somehow and make it rawk. |

Topic: Steven Harrington vs Chuck Anderson 10/12 / Conversation About The Match Best match I’ve seen so far. Hawkwind and The Electric Teepe FTW. I think Mr. Anderson is winning so far for putting together fire, water and the dimensional rift, but we shall see. |

Topic: Neil Duerden vs. Mathew Star Thomas 10/5 / Conversation about the match I think that the unofficial title of this match (at least for the moment) is The Lady On The Right. Anyway, refreshing subject matter. Lots of look (and get distracted at.) This’ll prove to be both more interesting and harder to judge. Ooh, the anticipation! Also, I think that the first player who can come up with one unifying concept (that the other will follow or play up on) wins. Right now, I feel like seeing a montage of things. Beautiful, yes, but I’d love to see more ideas came through. |

Topic: Shaun Inman vs. Kevin Cornell 9/28 / Conversation About Today's Match But Shaun got the whole family (well, more like two—but still!) guarding his back. I originally voted for Cornell, but at the risk of the dad/mom avenging their precious son, I would go for Shaun ;-) UPDATE: Cornell FTW, as seen on the main page. |

Topic: Shaun Inman vs. Kevin Cornell 9/28 / Conversation About Today's Match Aargh. I missed the better quarter of the match. I think that Cornell consistently played well throughout, but Inman had the best “oh, snap” kind of comeback. The winner? I have to say Kevin, for having the balls to set Latin words in Copperplate . He also showed us that default filters are for chumps by refraining from using any obvious one—in its place, beautiful artworks. Good show. |

Topic: Shaun Inman vs. Kevin Cornell 9/28 / Conversation About Today's Match Ooh, now it’s getting personal. Will Mr. Inman’s attempt to lull the commentator by tugging at his increasingly shaky relationship with Marker Felt succeed? But I have to say: good type, though unkerned still. |
