great work from both artists. I liked this competition a lot. It reminded me a bit of the mixed-format from the first tennis. it was a nice break from the photoshop/illustrator battles of the previous two weeks.
for my money (or free time), volley # 8 wasn’t just the best of the day, it was the best so far this year. glass was the clear winner today.

to joel D: i am not sure I agree. I am enjoying this LT when compared to last weeks style shifts. although the shifts were a inspired, i like that this is a competitive collaboration, and that you can see the growth of the work (so far). disclosure: I have very unsophisticated taste.

to devka: I felt like the anonymous female forms were trends in the artists general style. that was my impression in their posted work on the web. so i’m not surprised to see it here, nor bothered. but that’s me.

i’m wondering if using the bowler so prominently has played into Thomas’ strength here. I hope that Thomas finds a way to make good use of it in his next volley. did he throw that in there as part of an overarching strategy? will the ladybugs re-appear?

a ha! commercial, but PRINT commercial. nicely done. it feels original to me, and incorporating the dancing pagan logo was an excellent touch. now it’s a contest.

i agree that the return did use a lot of the space, v. mechanical, a stark contrast to the original. but it was well executed. what it lacked in subtlety was made up in humor. interesting to see if Cornell works against the mechanics, and goes back to the style of the original.

loved round 1, but i’m really curious to see what direction Cornell will take this decidedly commercial riposte. (i said riposte)
the first was really nice artistic work, the second was clever and also a subtle self-mocking of Inman’s web skills. really well done.
